Smart Israel is a united nations millennium fellow, social innovator, and climate activist dedicated to creating a better world through sustainable solutions. As a Bachelor of Software Engineering student at the African Leadership University, Rwanda, he is passionate about leveraging technology to promote climate action and social impact.
Smart Israel has been recognized globally for his remarkable contributions to creating a sustainable future. He was awarded the S.D.G. Champion Awards for Goals 3 and 13 in 2021 and honoured with the 30 under 30 Global Changemaker Award by ODIC in the same year. In 2022, he won the Circular Economy Hackathon at the World Circular Economy Forum, was recognized as a Hult Top 3% Global Talent in Innovation, and won the Best Delegate Award at the Model United Nations in Rwanda.
As the founder of Smartel, a startup focused on addressing food shortages in Africa through hydroponic technology that uses cutting-edge technology to improve efficiency and enable soilless farming, even in the most climate-arid regions of Nigeria. Israel is leading the charge in using innovative solutions to revolutionise agriculture and promote food security.
Smart Israel is also a climate activist and National Association of Nigerian Students ambassador. He advocates for policies that promote access to quality education and address the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities. He was selected as a Young Climate Advocate in 2023, working to bridge the gap between youth-led climate activist movements and demanding systemic changes at local, national, and international levels.
