Profile: Samarth Desai

Hello! My name is Samarth Desai and I am a rising freshman at Morris Hills. My favorite subjects in school are math and science. I love to spend time outdoors, playing sports, camping, fishing, hiking, and more! In addition, I love to play the piano and program or work with machine learning and AI.
I have always had a keen interest and aptitude for how our climate is changing and the impact it has on both our local and global communities. After volunteering in various town cleanups such as reservoir, highway, and street cleanups, I believe that I can make an impact through a different approach, using modern technologies such as AI and machine learning to make a positive impact efficiently and effectively. Finally, I believe that the opportunity to discuss and confer with other students and advocates is a valuable one and will build important teamwork and communication skills I can use my entire life.
Greta Thunberg inspires me with her will and passion for helping the environment and her boldness to speak out and fight for the planet. Greta first found out about global warming and climate change at the age of 8. Just a few years after that, she had already changed important aspects of her lifestyle. For example, she became a vegan and refused to fly on an airplane since they were both not good for the environment. She also began to strike outside of her parliament building with a sign that read "school strike for climate" where she would not go to school so the government could pass laws to prevent climate change. She was the only one at first, but kept going and inspired thousands of other students around the globe to do the same.
This is how Greta inspires me; to never give up and truly fight for what you are passionate about. Now, at the age of 18, Greta is one of the most influential and well-known climate advocates in the world. She has publicly spoken and never held back what she truly believes. This boldness and willingness to speak have inspired millions, including me, to fight against global climate issues and push for change.
